Comparing the Long Term Results of Different Treatments for Prostate Cancer

 

The best way to compare  treatments is with large numbers of patients, treated with similar stages of cancer (based on stage, Gleason and PSA) and then look at long term cure rates (based on the PSA remaining very low, called biochemical control.) By and large using modern techniques the long term results appear the same using surgery (radical prostatectomy) or external beam radiation (as long as the dose is high enough) or seeds (either seeds alone or seeds plus external.)
