 90% of all lung cancer in men and 79% of all lung cancers in women are caused by smoking. Over all 30% of all cancer deaths are related to smoking. For a heavy smoker the risk of dying of lung cancer is 12 to 25 times higher. Other cancers increased include: throat, esophagus, pancreas, kidney, bladder, stomach and cervix
   In 1990 smoking deaths included: 179,000 cardiac, 150,000 cancer and 84,000 pulmonary. Over 400,000 Americans are killed each year and worldwide the number is 3 million. It is estimated that worldwide, 250 million people alive today will die from tobacco related diseases.
   The economic cost of smoking in Florida in 1995 was estimated as greater than $5.8 billion. Along with cancer, cardiac, pulmonary disease and stroke, smoking causes macular degeneration and impotence
