Salvage RT increases survival in recurrent prostate cancer (ONI Volume 17 number 3/ March 2008)

 

Study form John Hopkins that radiation given for a rising PSA after radical prostatectomy will reduce the risk from dying from prostate cancer by 60%. In those with a more rapid rise in PSA (doubling in less than 6 months) the use of radiation reduced the cancer death rate by 86%. Study of 635 men who had PSA relapse, 160 given XRT, 78 XRT+ hormones and 397 no salvage therapy
