Irradiation for Hepatic Metastases  (More on Liver Mets)
  • RTOG trial of 21Gy in 7 fractions
  • 80% relief of abdominal pain (54% complete)
  • Prompt relief, median of 1.7 w (90% by 6w)
  • Median survival of 4.2 months

Irradiation for Adrenal Metastases
  • Adrenal mets are common in patients with lung cancer
  • Mod dose XRT (30-40Gy) relieve pain in 75-87% with
    low toxicity

Irradiation of Advanced Lung Cancer
  • Short courses (850cGy X2 or 10Gy X 1) 50% response
  • RTOG short course 60% response (lit. 54 - 71%) 25% complete
  • Intraluminal HDR effective
  • Short course 75% response for Vena Cava syndrome

Pelvic Pain for GI or GYN Cancer (More on GYN Cancers)
  • 370cGy bid X 4 or 400cGy X 5
  • 50 - 100% response, objective response in 30 - 53%

Re-Treatment for Recurrent Rectal Cancer
Complete Palliative Response
BLEEDING - 100%
PAIN - 65%
MASS EFFECT - 24%
majority palliated until death (median 12 mos)
