Esophagus
Cancer |
|
| Esophagus cancer is a serious
malignancy with a relatively low cure rate. Many patients are not candidates
for surgery and in the past were commonly treated with palliative (low dose)
radiation. Now most patients get chemo-radiation which has better results
and which may be equal to the results seen with surgery (see treatment
sections above and she the guidelines from the NCCN
here.) |
| Treatment | Median Survival | 2 Year Survival | 5 Year Survival |
| Radiation | 9 months | 10 - 12% | 0 - 7% |
| Chemo-Radiation | 12.5 - 20 months | 27 - 72% | 17 - 27% (55%) |
