Low Risk = T1c or T2a, PSA 10 or under, Gleason 6 or less. Medium Risk = T2b or Gleason 7 or PSA 10.1 - 20. High Risk = T2c or PSA > 20 or Gleason 8 - 10. Surgery = radical prostatectomy. This study basically showed that for patients with high risk cancers (as defined above) should not be treated simply with an implant alone (even if hormones are added.) We prefer to treat these patients with a combination of external beam irradiation plus seed implant. In patients who are very high risk (PSA > 20 or Gleason 7 or higher) we often combine hormones, external plus seed implant (so called triple therapy.) |
