Aug. 15, 1917-Oct. 7, 2008. 91, of Seminole &
Pinellas Park, died Oct. 7, 2008, James was born in
Pittsburg, PA. Within days he and his mother returned to
the family's dairy farm near Alliance, OH. James was the
oldest of 3 brothers, attended the nearby one room
Uniontown school and graduated from Sebring High School.
James began a study of engineering at Kent State and
later Ohio State, but World War II interrupted his
studies. James was drafted into the U.S. Army on Feb.
11, 1941, 10 months before the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
4 months after Pearl Harbor, James left for the South
Pacific as a member of the Signal Company of the 37th
Infantry Division. 2 years later, he returned to New
Jersey to attend Officers Candidate School; and after
graduation, James again went overseas as a Signal
Officer with the 191st Signal Repair Company in the
China-Burma-India region.
James returned from the war
and married Rosemary Scanlon in 1946. Rosemary and James
had 8 children and a loving marriage of over 61 years.
James worked for Ohio Bell Telephone Company for 38
years, holding numerous technical and leadership
positions in Alliance, East Liverpool, and Cleveland.
James was a member of the Knights of Columbus. James &
Rosemary moved to Florida in 1978.
James is survived by
his brother Donald Miller of North Palm Beach; 7
children, Peggy, James, Robert, Brian, Mary Ellen,
Kevin, & Tom; 12 grandchildren, and one
great-grandchild. Friends are invited to attend a
memorial Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of
Pinellas Park, at 10 am on Friday, Dec. 5. There will
also be a burial ceremony at Bay Pines National Cemetery
in Seminole. Cars will be led to the gravesite at 1:30
pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that
contributions be made to The Hospice Foundation of the
Florida Suncoast, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, FL
