Breast Cancer Imaging Studies

CT of lung cancer that has metastasized to the breast (here) ,CT of very locally advanced breast cancer growing into the chest wall here.  Other Miscellaneous pictures below

In previous years the only diagnostic studies to examine the breast were mammograms and ultrasound.  It is well known that mammograms may often be negative (miss the tumor) in women with dense breasts (usually younger women or women taking hormones.) Fortunately there are now other options particularly MRI of the breast and PET scans

CT Scan...the cancer was visible in the left breast
The pictures on the left are of a young woman with a large mass in her left breast.

The mammogram showed only architectural distortion, the CT showed some abnormality but the MRI demonstrated the cancer the best. She had a mastectomy and the cancer was measured at than 5.1 cm
