Alma Lazarus was born in North Benton, Ohio on September 14, 1834. She attended
Atwater Academy and when she was prepared to teach she was examined by James A. Garfield (later
the President.)
She was a strong advocate of the value of a good education and was a school teacher prior
to her marriage to Levi Miller at the age of 24 on January 6, 1859. Of their eight
children who survived to adulthood, five attended college, four taught school, two where
physicians and one a registered nurse. |
